Our virtual business structure is fundamental to our DNA. Through our streamlined network of contract designers, editors, copywriters and production specialists, we are able to adapt quickly to market conditions whilst maintaining a flexible working environment for our employees and ensuring each and everyone of them makes an active contribution to the development of Mediaweb.

Our collective approach draws on the values and ideas of each and every member our our team. Each publication may be produced independently, but together we are united in our commitment to providing:

  • top quality independent editorial, data and information
  • integrity and transparency in dealings with our clients
  • external auditing of our processes (all magazines are ABC audited)

We also operate as a member of the Magazine Publishers’ Association.

Lean & focused: We’re virtual so there’s minimal wasted time, energy or resources on daily commuting and maintaining a central office structure. All available resources go into improving our products and creating better experiences and results for our audiences and clients.

Adaptable & flexible: Our lean structure means we can adapt quickly to market changes and where we need a high quality resource that we don’t have on staff we source the best external contractor we can find.

Family & lifestyle-friendly: We recognise that individuals can best determine their optimum work time and that flexibility to juggle work, family and leisure activities means more satisfying, better –balanced lifestyles (not that most of us have managed it yet but we’re trying!).

Shared values: We are like a big family and like any family we have our differences, but we genuinely care about each other and in the tough first year that collective will to succeed kept us going. Our differences are many and make all our lives interesting, but we are united on the key things that count for this business. We are committed to providing:

Like any company we will occasionally get things wrong (if we didn’t it would mean we’re not pushing the bar hard enough!) and when we do we take it on the chin and do our utmost to rectify the problem.

Our history

We began in June 2009 – yes, mid-recession! – as a small collective of experienced and talented media professionals, passionate about the magazines, events  and projects many of us had worked together on at Profile Publishing. We wanted to keep alive the journalistic and publishing ethos acquired at Profile under long-time publisher Reg Birchfield.

With the support of colleagues, former Profile Publishing director Toni Myers acquired 5 magazines, their events, directories and newsletters, and established Mediaweb as a ‘virtual’ business. With a very small office base for a couple of administrative staff at a cottage in Kingsland, the majority of Mediaweb staff work from home.

The immediate objective was to create a sustainable business model in what was a very challenging environment, for business in general and the media in particular. With that achieved, and now into our second year, our focus is to build on the great brands we have, across every viable media channel. We want to give our audiences and clients the best opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills and expand their businesses and communities of interest.

As a small company (20+ FTEs) much of our growth will come by means of partnerships with organisations that are standouts in their field.
